She is well-versed in the conduct of hearings, for many years as Co-Chair and then Senior Chair of the University of Toronto (Discipline) Tribunal. She has also served as counsel advising a special legislative committee inquiring into the release of confidential information by a member of government, and as commission counsel advising the Honourable Louise Arbour in a commission of inquiry concerning the Kingston Prison for Women.
Over her more than 40-year career, Trisha has been repeatedly recognized as a leading counsel in commercial and corporate disputes of all types, energy regulation, product liability, securities, regulatory and public law, class actions, and defamation and has been named as one of the top 50 litigators and top 25 women litigators in Canada by, variously, Chambers Global, Lexpert, American Lawyers Guide to the Leading Lawyers in Canada, Benchmark Canada, and Best lawyers in Canada.
Trisha has years of experience with many types of domestic and international business disputes that are often resolved through arbitration or through mediation. She has a solid understanding of the commercial and practical concerns, and the importance of efficient and effective dispute resolution. She is practical and sensible in approaching her role as an arbitrator and is able to focus quickly on the fundamental issues in dispute, bringing to the sound judgment and a focus procedural fairness.
She was awarded the prestigious Law Society Medal by the Law Society of Ontario in 2009, and the Ontario Bar Association's Award for Excellence in Civil Litigation in 2015.
Trisha is committed to continuing legal education, and professional standards, and has fulfilled many volunteer roles in this connection. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and immediate past-President of the College's Canadian Foundation; a member and former Director of the Advocates' Society; a Director of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Legal Studies; a Director of the Osgoode Society; a Director of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association; and a member of the ICC Canada Arbitration Committe.
