Rachel Howie (she/her/hers) has over 10 years of experience practicing as counsel in domestic and international arbitrations and litigation. She is a partner at Dentons Canada LLP where she is the deputy lead of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution group in Canada and co-leader for the firm’s national ADR and Arbitration group. Her practice is primarily focused on disputes in the energy, mining and natural resources industries, and Rachel currently serves as a co-chair on the Canadian Advisory Board of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution, among other involvements in the arbitration community. 

Rachel’s experience in litigation and arbitration includes acting as counsel both on local matters and those that have an international or multi-jurisdictional aspect. She has acted as counsel in arbitrations involving mining, oil & gas and electricity industry disputes and agreements across Canada and in South America, Central Asia and South-East Asia under institutional rules and in ad hoc proceedings. Rachel also advises domestic and international clients on the drafting of dispute resolution clauses in transactional documents. 

A frequent author and speaker on matters of domestic and international arbitration, Rachel is highly regarded for her attention to detail and ability to also take a “big-picture” view. In April 2020, she was a member of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution’s Task Force on Remote Video Arbitration Proceedings, which authored the CPR Annotated Model Procedural Order for Remote Video Arbitration Proceedings. 

Rachel has been ranked by clients and peers in The Legal 500 Canada as a Next Generation Partner in Dispute Resolution and in the Global Arbitration Review’s Who’s Who Legal as a Future Leader in Arbitration. She is a member of the Western Canada Commercial Arbitration Society and is a listed arbitrator on the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) Canada roster.
