October 18, 2014 – Dr. Robert Gaitskell, QC, Keating Chambers

Arbitration Place, in the centre of the Toronto business district, is the most welcoming of any dispute resolution centre I have encountered anywhere. Kimberley Stewart and her team manage to make it a home-from-home for those visiting from foreign climes. The tribunal of which I was a part found that every problem could be solved by Kim’s staff, from arranging our hotel bookings (with upgrades), sitting on Saturday, through printing boarding passes at odd hours, to suggesting and booking restaurants. We all greatly enjoyed the superb breakfasts and lunches and endless coffee and snacks. Having sat there for two long cases already we are now looking forward to the next one!

April 15, 2014 – Sir Ian Barker, QC, Bankside Chambers

Thank you to our stenographers who have done a wonderful job, and I haven’t found any fault with the transcript at all, and they’ve done a magnificent job. Also to the staff at Arbitration Place, Arbitration Place is just fantastic. The staff at Arbitration Place are so friendly, courteous and professional and we are very grateful to them for the huge assistance which they have given to us over the last three weeks. Arbitration Place compares more than favourably with other similar establishments where I have sat in Asia. Provision of breakfast and a hot lunch for the members of the Tribunal was very much appreciated as was their help in arranging restaurant bookings and generally advising on what Toronto has to offer.

September 5, 2013 – Andrew de Lotbinière McDougall, White & Case LLP

I spent the day working from Arbitration Place earlier this year while in Toronto and was impressed. The facilities and service were excellent. I had everything I needed when I needed it. In addition to being a hearing centre, it is run by a professional court reporting firm with top quality stenographers on hand. The attention to detail was noticeable, such as when I asked about shelving and was told they have bookcases available to move into the rooms when needed. It is a versatile, user-friendly place for an arbitration practitioner to work from, and I look forward to returning.

July 15, 2013 – Philip “Whit” Engle, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators

Everything about Arbitration Place fits the bill for today’s sophisticated International commercial arbitration practitioner:  The facility is absolutely first rate – centrally located in the bustling business section of downtown Toronto, the comfortable (and tastefully appointed) hearing and breakout rooms are organized and sized for ADR, the support staff is highly professional and unrelenting in responsiveness, and the food great!   One does not feel rushed, cramped or claustrophobic as in other locations.  Further, there is a friendly cadre of practitioners and neutrals who maintain offices at Arbitration Place, who are actively engaged in the international dispute resolution field, and who seem more than happy to provide advice or to share perspectives.   From the moment you walk in the door you feel welcomed, and in this respect the busy international practitioner benefits from good old fashioned world-class hospitality. As a consequence the entire environment and experience are positive!

June 14, 2013 – Barry Leon, Commercial Judge of the High Court of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court in the Territory of the Virgin Islands; Chair, ICC Canada

Arbitration Place is a state-of-the-art hearing centre that rivals the best hearing centres in the world.

On every measure, it truly compares very favourably with those centres − and in some important respects exceeds them − making Toronto highly competitive globally as a place for arbitration.

Since the opening of Arbitration Place, I have been amazed by the number of arbitration practitioners from all parts of the world who are aware of and interested in it. Whenever I have shown someone around Arbitration Place, they have been very impressed.

All that Arbitration Place has been doing to promote the use of arbitration by Canadian businesses, to forge relationships with arbitral institutions, and to raise the profile of Toronto − and indeed the profile of Canada as a whole − in international arbitration circles has had a dramatic effect. Today there is a much greater awareness of the benefits of arbitration in Canada and a much greater awareness of Toronto internationally as an excellent place for international arbitration.

What Arbitration Place has been doing is benefitting the entire arbitration community in Canada – counsel and arbitrators alike – and is enhancing Toronto’s position as an international financial, mining and IT centre.

April 3, 2013 – Pierre Bienvenu, Norton Rose Canada S.E.N.C.R.L., s.r.l. / LLP

My last visit to Arbitration Place was in the company of colleagues from Norton Rose’s international arbitration team who were in Toronto to attend our firm’s annual global partners’ meeting and were keen to visit these new arbitration facilities.  Our delegation included partners from Hong Kong, Singapore, London, Frankfurt, Paris, Calgary, Quebec city and Montreal.  All of my colleagues were impressed with Arbitration Place, and those of us who are based in Canada took pride in showing them a hearing centre which compares favourably to the best available arbitration facilities in the world. It is obvious to any specialist who visits Arbitration Place, as it would be to any counsel or arbitrator who uses its facilities, that the people behind this arbitration centre understand the needs of dispute resolution users and have succeeded in putting together facilities that meet all of those needs.  It is that simple.

Chance encounters with one or more of the distinguished arbitration practitioners who are resident arbitrators are a bonus, as is the friendliness of everyone who works there.

January 14, 2013 – Gabrielle Kaufmann-Kohler, Lévy Kaufmann-Kohler

Attention to detail and the most friendly reception. The facilities are modern and elegant. The support given by the staff was very efficient. The real-time court reporting produced good quality drafts and final transcripts and I liked being greeted with an espresso cup when I first arrived! In other  words, I am looking forward to my next hearing at Arbitration Place.
